On its opening night, Este Monte de Mulher Palhaça pays tribute to one of the most traditional
dames in the art of circus: Iracema Pires Cavalcante. In almost half a century, Iracema has
worked as ticket seller, extra, singer, prop manager, prompter and, at last, as an actress. Her
experiences under circus tents, such as Guaraciaba’s, Real’s, El Presidente’s, Bibi’s, Brian’s and
Xixinelo’s, have been told in her book A Vida Maravilhosa nos Circos-Teatro (The Wonderful
Life of Theater-Circus), which she will autograph after presenting, together with her partner at
Guaraciaba, Hudi Rocha (72), a comic performance, which is a mix of jokes and Northeastern
folklore songs.
